Ibiza is known for its partying and nightlife, but it is also home to some beautiful beaches. The largest port is Marina Ibiza.
Not far from Ibiza is the smallest of the Balearic Islands, Formentera. It is considered a quieter island, full of unspoilt beaches. There is only one marina on the island, which offers a safe berth, but we recommend booking in advance, especially during high season. Access to the island is only by water and there is no airport.
The largest of the islands is Mallorca. Mallorca has everything from tourist complexes to less-beleaguered coves, so it is suitable for many tourists. It is also known as the 'sun island'. There are plenty of marinas, so moorings should not be a problem, and most charter companies are available. Many sailors choose to visit Cabrera National Park, as it is the perfect snorkelling destination. It is one of the windier islands.
Menorca is considered a more secluded island with fewer crowds, making it a good choice for lovers of unspoilt nature. The capital Mahon and the town of Fornells offer an excellent starting point for less experienced sailors, as they are sheltered from high seas and are larger areas with steady breezes.
The Balearic Islands are attractive to sailors because of their proximity, their many harbours and the opportunity to visit beautiful beaches. The best time to sail in the Balearic Islands is from April to October, with the summer months being the most stable in terms of weather.
